Crazy Trends at New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is the hot bed of new fashion trends that we can look forward to for the upcoming season. There are some cool new trends when it comes to women’s and men’s fashions, but there are some new ideas that are a bit strange.

For example, the peplum is an extra layer of fabric that is added as an accent to shirts and dresses that floats away from the waist. This is a great way to emphasis your small waist, and it camouflages any issues you might have with your midsection. This has been a popular fashion trend for a while now, but designers are beginning to make extremely exaggerated peplums that seem to be enveloping more and more of the body. The peplums are now being extended onto the front of the dresses. There are not that many scenarios where this trend would make sense. Many times when we see something on the runway it will usually make its way into the mainstream in a less ostentatious way, but the problem with this trend is that it already exists in a more conservative sense.

Another odd trend at Fashion Week is lace for men. Designer Et Al made men’s shirts that were constructed entirely out of high quality black lace. Androgyny is a very popular trend in the fashion industry, but this might be a bit too feminine to be considered truly androgynous.

Another unfortunate trend that is returning is the dresses-over-pants look. This trend comes back into style every twenty or so years, and it always looks a bit strange. Most of the time when women wear dresses with pants underneath it just looks like they couldn’t decide what to wear so they opted for pants and a dress. It almost always looks like a mistake instead of a high fashion choice.

New York Fashion Week is always fun and interesting because there are so many fun options when it comes to trends. There’s also a possibility that none of these trends could catch on, and we could be forced to survive without lace men’s dress shirts and over-exaggerated peplums.
